Well, there is nothing more stinky than a pet who has had a run in with a skunk, and now I know how to get rid of the smell of skunk on your pet. My dog, Dazy had a run in with a skunk last night, and the skunk won.
Dazy was foaming at the mouth and we were running around in a panic looking for tomatoe juice. Our freind Dave was visiting and told us this great recipe to get rid of the smell.
Get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a half box of baking soda and a squirt of dishwashing soap. Mix together and it will start to foam up. Put on the dog where the skunk sprayed, and leave it on for about 3-5 minutes.
You don’t have to scrub, as the chemical reaction is a little like Oxy-Clean, where the skunk molecules are entrapped by the soap, and just bubbles off.
This will dry out the dogs fur, so don’t leave on too long! It will also bleach the dogs fur. This is not always a bad thing, as our little dog looked pretty good afterward. Except her face.Do not use on the face.
We had to use tomato juice for the face, and it still smelled a bit but nothing like it did. So she was a bleached blonde with a pink head from the tomato juice, but it wasn’t such a bad look!
